The DOT (Data, Operations and Technology) team in CELA supports the needs of various groups within the company working to deliver these trustworthy experiences to Microsoft's customers. Our focus is on providing tools, processes and data built on Microsoft's great platforms, with a deep focus on integrating with and supporting the company's engineering systems. Our systems and data are used by engineering groups across the company, as well as groups across CELA and elsewhere.

The DOT Team is looking for a great Senior Data Engineer with deep technical expertise in designing and building Big Data pipelines and infrastructure to enable rich data analytics and reporting experiences. Our team operates under fast-paced, quality-first agile DevOps environment with a 2-week cadence to release to production. This is a unique opportunity at Microsoft to work in a team with reach and impact to cross-company efforts.

As a Data Engineer, you must be an expert, familiar with all the data warehousing technical components, infrastructure, and their integration. You will be responsible for developing architecture and high level design – with extensive experience with Star Schemas, Data Cubes, Dimensional Models, and Indexing strategies. We expect our data engineers to build durable data pipelines with the ability to scale elegantly with large data volumes. The code you write must enable our users to get data in a timely manner. End user experience is critical to us, so the applications you build must perform with all kinds of data. In this role you’ll be able to apply your skills and experience to company-wide efforts, working with engineering teams across the Company. You'll work on a variety of tools and systems, most of which are Azure-based web applications or data-platform components (e.g., data pipelines, processing, reporting, etc.).

Skills and Qualifications:

BS degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline or relevant work experience.

7+ years of experience with detailed knowledge of data warehouse technical architectures, ETL/ ELT, reporting/analytic tools, and data security.

5+ years of experience in architecting data warehouse solutions and integrating technical components.

3+ years of experience with relational, star schema, and data cubes data modeling concepts.

Solid knowledge of SQL Server, SQL T-SQL, and SSIS.

Relational Database development and performance tuning skills on very large scale enterprise systems.

2+ years working with SSAS, SSRS or other equivalent BI tools.

1+ year of experience with Big Data technologies including ADF, ADW, ADL, Cosmos.

Operational background to optimize data pipelines and infrastructure.

3+ year of experience building and testing large scale distributed systems / services.

5+ years of experience working with software programming in an Object Oriented Programming Language e.g. C++, C#, Java.

Proficiency building frameworks and solid API design skills.

Ability to deal with ambiguity.

Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills with a solid understanding of testing practices.

Strong communication skills.

Excellent cross group collaboration skills.

Familiarity and passion for agile/lean development and execution methods, including Scrum and Kanban.

Experience developing services using the DevOps model.

Can do / positive attitude.
