Responsibilities

You will be responsible for technical leadership and innovation at Verizon, Network Device Evaluation Lab Quality of Experience (QoE) and Supplemental Interoperability (S-IOT) team, building and maintaining industry leading test capabilities for device certification for both current and future technologies. Selected candidate will apply deep knowledge of wireless communication technologies and several years of hands-on experience to develop test solutions in simulated and end-to-end network lab environment. Principal Engineer will apply Radio Frequency (Engineering) excellence, expert level understanding of industry standards (3GPP/ETSI/CTIA…) and device requirements to evaluate and model RF performance of devices using industry leading test capability at NDET lab. In addition, the Engineer in this role will be responsible for end to end ownership of device certification, device Inter-Operability Test environment, test plans development, test equipment vendor selection and test execution. Testing will focus on identifying RF performance & quality issues of pre-launch devices and software updates, from all channels (Branded, Open Development/Machine-to-Machine/IO, Enterprise, Wholesale and Telematics….). The lead engineer will apply deep understanding of Verizon network architecture and call flow to develop interaction scenarios, error conditions and manage end-to-end testing of devices. Measure and evaluate RF performance of devices against industry and Verizon specifications, for various frequency bands (Band 13, Band 4, Band 2, Band 5, Band 66…and 5G). In this role, the principal engineer will use expert level RF propagation modeling skills and intricate measurement methodologies to compare results across multiple test samples at NDET lab. Comparison will be performed against CTIA approved 3rd party lab test results submitted by the device makers. Antenna performance Lead Engineer is responsible for assessing potential impact of measured values on both transmit and receive antenna, on network capacity and customer experience. Develop IOT test scenarios to characterize end-to-end performance of devices in networked lab environment, analyzing and mapping device performance against TIS/TRP measurement. Partner effectively with network teams, maintenance engineering and device vendors, championing feature trials and legacy chipset/devices testing at FOA and trial markets. Guide OEMs in isolating RF performance issues and alternate designs to rectify issues in a timely manner. Review potential non-compliance issues and recommend alternatives, including making final decision on waiver requests. Conduct end-to-end performance analysis of new products and features in relation to device RF behavior and capability. And create test configurations and instrumentation to promptly respond to issues investigation and optimization opportunities related to RAN and EPC interaction with Devices. Develop close collaboration with internal teams and network equipment vendors to create state of the art test environment to test network device interaction scenarios for pre-launch and post-launch devices, taking lead role in early technical trials, field testing and instrumentation of error conditions, in support of technology introductions and production testing. Work with existing suppliers, evaluate and qualify alternate solutions to achieve device certification cost reduction and efficiency improvement goals. Support management in contract negotiations and establish delivery milestones based on key technical check points. Establish project plans and deliverables, ensuring deliveries are made according to technical specifications. Proactively engage solution providers by establishing S-IOT testing requirement for future technology and features. Demonstrate role model behavior; take ownership of team development as a technical mentor and leader React quickly to customer and network impacting issues and work effectively under pressure in a fast paced, dynamic environment. Lead the device test team on outage calls collaborating across organizations to develop strategies to isolate the problems quickly.

Qualifications

Must have: Minimum 4-year degree BSEE/BSCS/BSCE or equivalent experience Six or more years of experience in the wireless industry, with focus on RF engineering, test plan development, test automation, and standard compliance SIM/UICC testing and Inter-Operability Testing. Hands on experience in all wireless access technologies and 2G/3G/4G with insight into 5G development and deployment possibilities. Excellent knowledge of RF propagation characteristics and impact of transmit/receive (TIS/TRP) measurements at various LTE bands and frequencies. Expert level knowledge of SIP signaling, LTE-EPC and IMS architecture with hands-on experience in device testing in a LTE environment, VoWiFi, VoLTE, eMBMS, CA, IoT, M2M. Experience leading large and complex wireless project, project management and vendor management Prior experience in leading process development and process audits, following process and contributing to process improvements, making adjustments based on lessons learned and taking corrective and preventive actions. Developing internal controls, checks and balances for a highly secure work environment Good familiarity with all common PC operating systems and application (Microsoft OS, UNIX, MS Office) and common mobile Operating Systems such as Android, Window Mobile, iOS, Blackberry. Availability to travel up to 25% of the time.

Ideally, you'll also have: A PhD Demonstrated ability to negotiate contracts Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to work with multidisciplinary teams Effective communicator with success in executive presentation and inter-team communication and leadership Thorough understanding of mobile industry trends and several years experience working with device/network ecosystem partners Proven ability to coordinate across organizational boundaries, influencing decision makers internally and externally to create positive impact to Verizon Wireless business. Proven track record in team leadership, being lead engineer and subject matter expert in multiple areas Strict adherence to process discipline, while being flexible to be aligned with business priorities. Key stakeholder to expand and maintain test lab accreditation( ISO 17025, CTIA, GCF)
