Marketing Data Scientist

The Marketing Data Scientist is responsible for modeling complex commercial data sets, discovering insights and identifying opportunities through the use of statistical, algorithmic, mining and visualization techniques.

Essential Responsibilities

Data Scientists work closely with marketing, sales & IT colleagues, to turn data into actionable information and knowledge that can be used to make sound commercial decisions. They need to be creative thinkers and propose innovative ways to look at problems by using data mining (the process of discovering new patterns from large data sets).

Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Research and develop statistical learning models for data analysis of

    • Multiple customer touchpoints and market relevant data sources (e.g. CRM, ERP, BI applications, web analytics, publicly available information, such as IMS and EvaluatePharma, research grant award information)
    • Pricing trends and opportunities for price optimization.
  • Translates data into congruent and reliable information and actionable insights and effectively communicating the results and ideas to key decision makers
  • Translating complex information into fundamental concepts that a broad range of stakeholders can understand.
  • Self identifying & defining projects and ways of working that deliver results, based on requested business outcomes.
  • Provide predictive outcomes that support key business initiatives and help to drive growth.
  • Evaluate existing data, recognize business drivers and project future development, highlighting essential factors.
  • Remain aware of and champion data privacy.
  • Strong project management skills to deliver outcomes to agreed timelines and quality.

Quality Specific Goals:

  • Aware of and comply with the GEHC Quality Manual, Quality Management System, Quality Management Policy, Quality Goals, and applicable laws and regulations as they apply to this job type/position
  • Complete all planned Quality & Compliance training within the defined deadlines
  • Identify and report any quality or compliance concerns and take immediate corrective action as required
  • Responsible for ensuring legal and regulatory approval of all marketing communications prior to external release

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Degree in computer sciences, statistics, applied mathematics or related field.
  • Minimum 3+ years’ experience in data analysis and statistical mining fields.
  • Team oriented – ability to motivate and work well with diverse, cross-functional teams
  • Influencing skills – ability to motivate individuals and demonstrate organizational influence.
  • Willingness and ability to travel.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills. Capable and comfortable with telephone and web-ex presenting.
  • Demonstrated and proven skills of working with very large data volumes.
  • Demonstrated and proven MS Office skill. It is essential to master Excel, Access and VBA at a high level of proficiency.
  • Database management, database design and definition, designing user interfaces and SQL analytics are essential aspects of the assignment.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Desired Characteristics

  • MBA or Master’s degree in Marketing, Business Administration or related field
  • 3 + years’ experience in marketing, product marketing or related field
  • Knowledge of Life Sciences customer markets eg. Protein research, Biopharmaceutical manufacturing etc.
  • Experience in supporting a commercial organization.
  • Willingness and ability to take on additional responsibilities and undertake challenging tasks and/or global projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to energize, develop, and build rapport at all levels within an organization.
  • A high degree of self-motivation.
  • Experience of a CRM system, preferably SalesForce.com
  • Experience with Oracle ERP, Omniture
  • Working with external data sets and market information
