Job Description

At Ancestry we have an amazing opportunity to work with very interesting, massive data sets. We are looking for a passionate Data Engineer that thrives on challenges, has a basic understanding of distributed data systems and data architecture, and a software development foundation. This person will take part in furthering the big data footprint at Ancestry and work closely with the Business Intelligence team in developing and maturing our data pipelines that include: a near-real time enterprise data warehouse, a platform for data analytics and machine learning, and real time alerting and monitoring. This position will also assist with performing ETL/ELT to bring data from many disparate systems into the data warehouse. This position is located in Lehi/Thanksgiving Point office. Telecommuting is not an option.

Key Responsibilities / Performance Requirements:
Develop data expertise, be a data steward evangelist, and own data pipelines

Architect, build, and deploy new data solutions that provide forward-thinking data opportunities

Design and develop extremely efficient and reliable data pipelines to move massive amounts of data into the Data Warehouse and other data platforms

Use Java, Scala, and Python to develop data applications deployed on many different systems

Own solutions end-to-end

Develop and implement data auditing strategies and processes to ensure data accuracy and integrity

Contribute to multiple projects in a fast-paced environment

Assist in construction of enterprise data warehouse Qualifications

BS or MS degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related technical field.

6+ months of Java or other OO development experience

6+ months SQL experience

Foundational understanding of Data Warehouse Design and Implementation

Unmistakable passion for solving difficult data problems

Excellent communication skills including the ability to communicate data technologies and architectures

Desired skills/interests:
Kafka and streaming architectures

Spark Streaming and MLLib

Machine learning algorithms for real-time alerting and monitoring data flows

Hadoop Ecosystem

ETL/ELT tools and design

Analytical and root cause analysis skills to provide consistent data integrity

Data modeling, data mapping, data integration and extraction
