Overall purpose of role: For the Electronic Communications (eComms) Surveillance programme, a Java/Hadoop developer is required to help with rolling out the next generation machine learning, natural language processing (NLP), cognitive computing platform. The focus will also be on migration of models from the legacy platform to the next generation platform and subsequent decommission of the legacy platform.
Key Accountabilities and Skills required:
o Development of new applications and enhancements to existing applications. Translate functional and technical requirements into Technology solutions. Estimate level of effort required to develop code that meets acceptance criteria. Integrate components while pulling together data from various sources. Ensure code written meets firm-wide standards. Conduct peer reviews and provide documented constructive feedback. Level 3 support and production release support.
o Stakeholder management and leadership. Must be able to work with global (UK, US and India) and multi-disciplinary (3rd party, contractors and Barclays) delivery teams.
o Decision making and problem solving. Excellent analytical skills and an appetite for problem-solving and delivery.
Your Skills and Qualifications will include
o Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent
o 3+ years of hands on experience in Java technologies including Spring, JMS, jBPM, Hibernate
o Hands on experience with Restful Services
o 3+ years of experience in Relational Databases like Oracle, SQL Server and PL/SQL
o 3+ years of experience in the Unix environment
o 2+ years of experience working in an Agile and Lean environment
o Experience with Big Data technologies like Hadoop, Spark, MongoDB, RainStor.
o Certifications in Java and Big Data Technologies
o Good understanding of the DevOps process and experience with the tools that support automation.
o Experience with Scala, Groovy, Python, Ruby, Perl & Regular Expressions
o Ability to understand business requirements and develop software solutions.
o Strong data analysis skills and ability to present the findings to the business users.
o Quick learner; strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to deal with numerous tasks simultaneously and with frequently changing priorities.
o Ability to design, write and execute test cases in an automated fashion.
o Financial Services and Compliance Technology background is highly preferred.
o Demonstrable ability to communicate and build relationships with members of the business and technology communities.
o Strong written and verbal communication skills
o Must be independent and creative in approach to problems and issues; assertive, tenacious, proactive
