GIS Data Analyst

Grade: 714 Salary Range: $48,297.60 – $80,808.00/annually

The Tucson Water Department is seeking a highly qualified, dedicated, dependable, and team-oriented individual to participate in various GIS projects in supporting the Water Resources Management Section by coordinating GIS data and information that have specific department, division or City-wide implications. The GIS Data Analyst performs analytical project responsibilities which include data analysis, performing quality control functions of geographic-related data, and coaching of other employees on GIS applications and practices.

Examples of essential duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Respond to data requests for spatial and related water resource data;
  • Create, develop, and maintain GIS data;
  • Responsible for spatial analysis and representation of groundwater and hydrologic data in maps and map creation;
  • Performs project reporting, data acquisition, creation, conversion, and interpretation;
  • Reads and interprets data from spatial and non-spatial databases;
  • Performs complex spatial analysis and multiple database queries, requiring scripting or SQL;
  • Programming or scripting to automate tasks.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Geography, Planning, Engineering, or GIS geology
  • Over two years of experience working with and interpreting GIS data and applications;
  • Valid driver's license.

    An equivalent combination of education, training and experience related to the essential duties which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of this position may be considered

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    The ideal candidate will possess the above minimum qualifications as well as relevant experience in the areas listed below:

  • Experience coaching others for use of GIS and GIS-related applications;
  • Experience with ArcGIS online or publication of web mapping applications;
  • Knowledge of web development and related programming language and frameworks;
  • Experience working with SQL Server or other enterprise databases.

    Employees in these classifications earn 104 hours of sick leave and 104 hours of vacation leave annually. Vacation accrual rates increase with seniority. Sick Leave balances are unlimited and Vacation balances have a cap of 288 hours.
