Enterprise Big Data Architect

Tasks/Activities:

  • Architect
    large volume data flows from mainframe, relational and other sources to Hadoop,
    transformations and processing on Hadoop, and export from Hadoop to target
    systems
  • Automate and
    manage lifecycle of data on Hadoop (job scheduling, purge, compress, archive)
  • Manage
    lineage and other metadata of dataflows on Hadoop
  • Process data
    on Hadoop for analytics and data science consumption at the both the HDFS, HAWQ
    table and toolset level
  • Own near-
    and long-term capacity planning of multiple Hadoop clusters
  • Guide
    performance testing and recommend solutions for any performance bottlenecks
  • Evolve and
    govern standards, principles and best practices around Big Data implementations
  • Work
    effectively across multiple business units and stakeholder groups
  • Demonstrate
    thought leadership and guidance on Big Data adoption within the organization
  • Communicate
    solutions architecture alternatives and rationales to key stakeholders and
    project teams
  • Contribute
    on multiple Big Data projects and assign tasks to junior engineers (onshore and
    offshore), oversee the execution of tasks and provide mentorship and guidance
    as needed
  • Understand
    business objectives and suggests technical strategies to meet those objectives
  • Contribute
    to business requirement definition and use case design as a technical expert
  • Convert
    business requirements into architectural designs and detailed technical designs
  • Identify
    tasks, effort and dependencies based on software architecture and
    specifications
  • Plan and
    execute a technology proof-of-concept (POC) using Big Data technology
  • Understand,
    conform to and participate in enterprise-wide architecture patterns and formal
    reviews including security and regulatory compliance
  • Evaluate and
    adopt latest technologies to evolve the Big Data platform

    architect and rationalize Big Data solutions and patterns to multiple
    stakeholders based on business, functional and non-functional requirements

    technical competence in the following:
  • Big Data
    technology – Java, Linux shell scripting, Hive/HAWQ, Pig, UDFs and other Hadoop
    ecosystem components
  • Big Data
    engineering
  • Data
    warehouse, BI, ETL and reporting tools
  • RDBMS data
    modeling and SQL
  • NoSQL
    databases
  • Strong
    problem-solving and strategic planning skills
  • Effective
    communication, collaboration, presentation and influencing skills

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of
    solid IT experience in architecture, data warehousing and large scale
    implementations

  • Excellent
    one-on-one communication and presentation skills, able to convey technical
    information in a clear and unambiguous manner to multiple stakeholder groups
