The Director Cloud Infrastructure Solutions will lead the engineering cloud infrastructure solutions team. Included in the focus areas is the critical evaluation and selection of the architecture and design of both software and hardware components of the infrastructure environment including SDN, compute, GPU, storage and areas around IP, ASN, BGP etc…
Growing a team and establishing best practices while scaling out will be key responsibilities of this role. Effectively drive the outcomes and provide meaningful impact to the industrial cloud platform from an infrastructures perspective. This is a challenging position with an opportunity to design from the ground-up and be an early team member. This position will focus on GE hosted data center locations and you will play a critical role in all aspects from automation, scaling, reliability and monitoring of infrastructure.
In this role, you will:
Work directly with infrastructure vendors on development and deployment of new technologies.
Provide input on next-generation rack meet business requirements at the all infrastructure levels.
Balance design choices across cost; form factor; reliability; and optimization for specific requirements of particular projects ensuring efficiency using appropriate dense components where necessary.
Qualify bleeding-edge hardware and firmware technologies at rack levels, address risk and reward.
Provide hands-on technical leadership in design and support of the technical team working with and reporting to you.
Assist with capacity planning and forecasting for expansion, changes and needs.
Conduct periodic on call duties using a follow-the-sun model.
Travel as needed for job responsibility.
Hands experience in setting up datacenters and design and implementation.
Be a leading expert in the organization on developments with cloud-hosted infrastructure and platform services, software defined components.
Architect and design solutions able to solve industrial IoT challenges including distributing workloads across multiple public and private cloud environments, services accessibility, and an increasingly externally connected workforce.
Partner with peer infrastructure teams, business application teams, and vendor teams to design large scale enterprise networking meeting the critical needs of a workforce of >300,000 employees in >160 countries.
Collaborate with Network Principal Technologists (PT) and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to bring cutting edge networking technology to the environment by driving New Technology Introduction (NTI) efforts.
Engage network deployment and operations organizations to successfully implement solutions and transition them into production.
Mentor others to develop their technical expertise.
Effectively communicate to all levels of the organization including SMEs, Principal Technologist, CTO, CIOs, etc.
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), or 12 years of equivalent experience
Minimum of 8 years of experience in supporting large enterprise network infrastructure or a Master’s Degree with 5 years of experience in supporting large enterprise network infrastructure
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in primary design or architecture role in network and or server infrastructure
Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. GE may agree to sponsor an individual for an employment visa now or in the future if there is a shortage of individuals with particular skills

Experience on leading/manager datacenter infrastructure in large scale environment, project management experience a plus also.
Certifications in relevant areas listed above such as ITIL, Agile, Scrum, etc…
Expertise in designing, analyzing and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems.
In-depth knowledge of datacenter hardware and network components.
Systematic problem solving approach, coupled with a strong sense of ownership and drive.
Deep knowledge of major rack and server component architecture and design (rack, cabling, networking, patch panels, etc…).
Experience leading a team successfully.
Comfortable in a fast moving environment.
Deep networking experience e.g. TCP/IP, UDP, ICMP, etc., MAC addresses, IP packets, DNS, OSI layers, and load balancing.
Tenacious problem solver demonstrating an innate curiosity and passion for solving difficult problems.
Demonstrated foundation of expertise in network fundamentals (routing, switching, TCP/IP, network security, etc)
Demonstrated training or experience with network virtualization, IaaS/PaaS, and/or SDN technologies including a minimum of 3 years designing solutions in this areas.

Demonstrates mastery of the intricacies of interactions and dynamics in Agile teams.). Guides new teams to adopt Agile, troubleshoots adoption efforts, and guide continuous improvement. Provides training on Lean / Agile. Drives elimination of inefficiencies in coding process. Teaches XP practices to others. Actively embraces new methods and practices that increase efficiency and effectiveness
Previous experience in software development in an agile environment and writing code
Previous experience working in a Java web development environment
Demonstrates advanced understanding of Linux or Unix operating systems
Demonstrates advanced understanding of software development tools & infrastructure
Evangelizes new technology, predicts trends, and identifies new opportunities based on trends. Acts as industry expert by participating in defining standards and open source initiatives
