The Date Scientist will join a newly formed Predictive Analytics team supporting the Business Performance Services organization. The team member will lead projects to capitalize on opportunities to the business in 4 key areas: customer insights, operational excellence, competitive analysis, and advanced modeling. The position will support a cross-functional team and provide in-depth data insights for complex business problems that can be approached with advanced analytics. The ideal candidate for this role has considerable expertise in data science, an entrepreneurial spirit to thrive in the growth stage of the team, and is passionate about creating business intelligence.
Location: Alpharetta, GA
- Receives assignments in the form of objectives and leverages data to create insightful models and tools ultimately used in business decisions
- Engages with business leaders and team members including data analysts and data engineers to understand the needs of the business, turn them into data requirements, and structure data-based solutions as required by the business
- Performs exploratory data analysis, generates and tests working hypotheses, and uncovers interesting trends and relationships
- Analyzes and models structured data and implements algorithms to support analyses using advanced statistical and mathematical methods including statistics, data mining, econometrics, and operations research
- Performs advanced analytics techniques to mine unstructured data using methods such as document clustering, topic analysis, named entity recognition, and document classification (machine learning and natural language processing is a plus)
- Other duties as assigned
8+ years experience in analytics or related field
5-10 years of applicable work experience preferably in data science, software engineering, or business intelligence
Strong quantitative analysis background and experience in working with large, complex data systems to aggregate, organize, and prepare data for use in business analysis
Strong mathematical background with knowledge in at least one of the following fields: statistics, data mining, operations research, econometrics, and/or information retrieval (machine learning and natural language processing is a plus)
Deep experience in extracting, cleaning, preparing and modeling data
Working knowledge of relevant software packages for statistical analyses and visualization. Potential tools include SQL Server, R, Python, Tableau, and Power BI.
Effective communication skills (written and verbal) for interaction with both internal and external stakeholders
Demonstrated capacity to become “expert” in new topics and disciplines quickly
“Self-starter” attitude with the ability to excel in dynamic work environments
Ability to manage multiple priorities
Additional Knowledge & Skills
SQL Server or Oracle DBA certification is a plus
BA or BS degree or equivalent experience required. MS or PhD degree in a quantitative or systems discipline such as Computer Science, Physics, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Econometrics, or related fields is preferred
Up to 10% overnight travel required
