The Weather Company, an IBM business, is looking for an intern to help with data and analytics work for the planning and analytics team. This is a paid part-time position located in Midtown Manhattan in New York City. Weekly hours range from 15 to 25 depending on candidate’s availability.
Expected Start Date: December 1 st , 2016
Work with the mentor for guidance to cleanse, map, and transform data sets in order to create analytic solutions that will help the business grow top line, improve efficiency, or enhance visibility of crucial performance metrics
Collect advertiser information from existing ad systems and create mapping for advertisers across sources; assign vertical information to advertisers, validate it with vertical stakeholders, and continue to maintain data quality in the database
Support data research projects to explore potential data sources (external market data, social media data, etc.) and recommend potential use cases
Apply both quantitative disciplines and creativity to translate data into actionable insights by understanding data scopes, limitations, relationships, recognizing patterns through advanced modeling, etc.

Excellent Microsoft Excel skills, such as vlookup, filtering, sorting, formatting, creating formulas, etc.; abilities to transform and connect data sets according to business needs
A good logical thinker and quick learner who is able to identify, articulate, and resolve data related issues
Preferred Professional and Technical Expertise
Interested in coding with Python, R, or other similar languages in order to load cleansed data sets into databases; understand structured/unstructured databases and the concept of joins between tables
A hard worker with great work ethics; maintain regular weekly work hours and keep up with targeted timelines; communicate any changes in work schedule and progress with the manager in advance
A self-starter who is passionate about getting data, using data, making sense of data, and helping others benefit from making data/analytics driven decisions
A trained Python, R, or other similar language user who is able to work independently given data sets and business needs
Familiarity with SQL, Amazon Web Services (S3, EC2, Redshift, etc.), and Big Data environments
Good Microsoft Power Point, Word, and Access skills that are commonly applied in a professional setting
Must be enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate program in Math/Stats, Computer Science, Engineering, or other related quantitative fields; expected graduation date must be on or later than May 1 st , 2017
