Data Engineer

Job Summary

As an engineer on the Data & Insights team, a data engineer

is responsible for data profiling, analysis and extraction of data in the

process of constructing data products. Our focus surrounds core retail areas

including planning, merchandising, inventory management & supply chain

business areas. This position will work

closely with our business partners & BI technical lead ensuring solutions

meet their objectives including oversight of project delivery as well as

management of day to day support activities.

Requirements:
3-5 years of BI, Data Warehousing and/or Big

Data development experience

Strong knowledge of star schema & normalized

data models

Strong SQL expertise for data analysis &

complex view development

Experience using OLTP & Analytics databases

such as Oracle, Netezza, MySQL, etc

Experience with programming languages such as

java, python, C++, etc

Experience with Big Data and/or NoSQL databases

such as Hadoop, Cassandra, MongoDB, etc

Knowledge of Hadoop platform tools (HBASE, Hive,

MapReduce, Squoop, Pig, Nifi, Spark)

Expertise in delivery processes such as Agile

& Waterfall

Knowledge of development lifecycle tools such as

JIRA, QC, Fogbugs, etc

Qualifications

Responsibilities:
Build data extraction tools using various technologies to capture 3

party data

Design & delivery of ELT scripts for use on both traditional & emerging data platforms

Build & support Data solutions including Netezza Views, Data Models, Reporting solutions, etc

Work with Data Scientists to build tools that allows users to interact with predictive models

Execute data mining activities providing insight from datasets

Build Hadoop jobs to transform data into analytics datasets

Work with Project Management to provide timely estimates, updates & status

Manage and resolve issues on a 24X7 basis as part of an on-call rotation

Collect requirements, design and deploy high-availability, robust, resilient and supportable solutions

Nice to Haves:
Experience with ETL tools such as Datastage,

Informatica, etc.

Experience building and working with API’s

(REST, SOA, etc) and data feeds

Knowledge of analytical toolsets such as R,

Python, SAS, SPSS, Matlab, etc

Knowledge of NLP, text analytics, social

analytics

Knowledge of integration technologies such as

RabbitMQ, MQSeries, Tibco, Oracle SOA Fusion, etc

Retail background with a knowledge of common

retail terms and business drivers
