The Data Analytics Lead supports and leads all underwriting data analytics and reporting across auto, home, and umbrella. Underwriting (or transaction-based) data is essential to identify report and take action against leakage driven by behavior (agents, ServiceOperations and vendors) and systems. They will take a lead role in the team, supporting our strategy towards a data-driven department by 1) increasing access to U/W data 2) training UW, distribution and product to leverage the analytics 3) bringing rigor to data validation and reporting and 4) leading data projects working with IT and BI to schedule resources 5) develops statistical models 6) present findings to a broader audience.
1. Take leadership role in solving complex data problems by combining knowledge of insurance business, combining different data sources and statistical modeling.
2. Create and maintain reports by querying and assembling data using programs such as Excel, Access, and SAS or coding with SQL.
3.Perform statistical modeling work or research projects around business cases that would help determine leakage and drive better decisions around current processes.
4.Present studies and recommendations to management, and drive efforts around innovation and profitability.
5.Validate new data to existing data to ensure that reports are accurate.
6.Initiates, monitors and recommends data initiatives to reduce underwriting manipulation and to improve profitability.
7.Develops and manages business data processes, creating improvements in quality and/or productivity, cost reductions, organization analysis, and customer experience improvements.
8.Coordinates with business partners including R & D, IT, product management, distribution, finance and underwriting to understand the business challenges and opportunities to tailor data analytics efforts to meet their needs, balancing multiple priorities and effectively communicating the benefits and limits of statistical modeling, data integrity, optimization, and data constraints.
9.Participate the Underwriting efforts to make transactional data easier to obtain and empower more Personal Line users.
10.Train underwriting staff to become more strong data-driven decision makers.
11.Ability to gather an in depth knowledge of Farmers database architecture and data querying.
12.Develops expertise and represents UW interests for new data mining tools and technologies and trains other team members accordingly. Examples include SAS EG, InfoMaps, etc.
13.Create requirements for data enhancements with IT needed to improve our pricing and/or data process in the future.
14.Develops and manages business certification of all UW related data projects.
15.Will provide coverage as needed for analysts' and manager's absence.

Four-year degree required preferably in mathematics or business/finance or science. Graduate degree preferred.
Five years experience in a similar role Demonstrated leadership experience and skills Experience with SQL and/or SAS
